Edsel & Eleanor Ford House

Discover the inspiration of Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, where picturesque architecture surrounded by beautiful landscapes takes you inside the story one of America’s most prominent automotive families. Edsel Ford – the only son of Henry and Clara Ford – became president of Ford Motor Company in 1919 at the age of 25.

Offering a one-of-a-kind look into the private lives of Edsel Ford, his wife Eleanor and their children, a guided tour of their 60-room lakeside mansion brings you into the same rooms they called home. The Fords’ carefully designed and curated home also reveals their deep love for art and design, from architecture and landscape to their impressive personal collection of art and antiques. The house was designed by Detroit architect Albert Kahn and completed in 1929.

Explore the gorgeous grounds and lush gardens of the estate, where you can take in the naturalist-style landscapes which helped earn Ford House the prestigious designation of National Historic Landmark. Bring along a picnic and enjoy peaceful views of Lake St. Clair.

Coming in spring 2020, Ford House will open a brand new visitor center and administration building, currently under construction. In the visitor center, you will be able to take a deep dive into the Ford family story and the creation of their estate, experience new exciting exhibits, take classes, host private events, dine and shop… all in elegant, state-of-the-art spaces with unparalleled views. Explore www.building.fordhouse.org to learn more about the project.

Michigan Screw Co, 1913

As the story goes, one day while walking the shop floor at REO Olds witnessed a work slowdown because a local parts manufacturer was tardy in its shipment because it was busy making other parts for other businesses. In response Olds began to assemble a network of satellite companies that would assure there was never a slowdown in production of automobiles because of a supplier. Michigan Screw was incorporated in 1906. "Screw machine products and automobile supplies" were its products.
