Over The Grosse Ile Toll Bridge

Before the Toll Bridge opened in 1913, transportation to and from Grosse Ile occurred only by boat or by train across the Michigan Central rail bridge to the south. In Detroit, the automobile industry was changing the way we lived and the railroad could not compete with the flow of automobiles across the Toll Bridge.
