Restoration of Phoenix Mill Facade

The Friends of Phoenix Mill received a grant from MotorCities National Heritage Area for the restoration of the Phoenix Mill facade. Phoenix Mill Ford Plant was the first-ever all-female factory where women earned the same wage as men—something unheard of before or during the 1940s. The Phoenix Mill is located about two miles north-east of Plymouth, Michigan.

The MotorCities grant will enable the Friends of Phoenix Mill to stabilize the brick facade of the generator tower and help to install black plexiglass with etching of original Edison hydroelectric generator.

The grant is currently underway and is expected to be completed by July 2011. Stay tuned for news updates, pictures, and completion information!
